It Was CNY And Now Awal Muharram
1It has been an enjoyable short holiday for me, though a bit tiring. Been driving off to somewhere almost everyday. One symptom of a public holiday here in Kelantan is that you would see a sudden influx of cars, which creates instant traffic jams. Something that would rarely happen if its not a public holiday (long one that is). The sudden influx of cars is usually the sons of Kelantan returning home from all over Malaysia, this you can see from the myriad of plate numbers suddenly appearing in Kelantan. When people gather in a spot, no matter how big a place it is, it will definitely cause a bit of a jam. But the CNY+Awal Muharram jam, is not as bad as the one that I had to endure during the not so recent Aidil Fitri. Still my joints hurts from playing with the pedals too much. But that is that ![]()
Well, since the public holiday is a bit long, lots of people have been getting married during this holiday. (Went to one such marriage just 2 days ago) People are taking advantage of the long lull to might I say, take care of business? Friends of mine have also tied the knot during this holiday; Hanan and wife did it in Ipoh, Sabariah and Amir Fariz in KL, but as usual I’m not going for the Women’s side, instead I’m going to the Men’s side only. Couldn’t really make it to both wedding, was slightly misinformed + memory loss
And the holiday is too short that I don’t want to endure the long journey. Yes, I love travelling, but I love it when I get there, don’t really enjoy the trip in between especially since there’s nothing much to see in between.
I think I have to cut this entry short, am going to pack my stuff and start my journey back to school.
But still I want to wish the two couples a happy marriage and may it last forever ![]()

Before The Electricity Went Off
0Yes, before the electricity went off I had actually a lot to write, was already on my second paragraph. But that was yesterday at the school’s comp lab, today I’m at home. Basically can’t really remember much of that day’s sentiment ![]()
Here’s a recap of what I’ve been doing this past few weeks. First, I’ve been playing volleyball and ping pong almost every day of the week. Volleyball because I’m helping out to coach the students. They have a tourney in 2 weeks time. So I’m the I-don’t-know-how-to-coach-volleyball-but-I’ll-try-to-be-helpful-guy. And thus far, I can see a lot of improvement in their play, especially the boys. I’m also relearning how to play the game. They always finish off their practice session with a game with the teachers, so I regularly join in the game. Although I’m not that good (memang tak reti main) but hey, its playing the game that matters not winning it.
It’s also great fun to be playing something for a change. ![]()
I’ve also been playing ping pong regularly. Been sparring with the school’s coach everyday. Good to improve my techniques as I’ve asked to help coach the school team. The tourney for Ping Pong will start around March, so I better be prepared to coach the school players.
hehehe.
So, I do believe I’m very lucky to get posted at this school, beside the good class environment and everything, I’m also getting a good workout everyday. The caramaderie at this school exceptional, as the seniors tell me, you won’t find this kind of thing at an urban school ![]()

Jerek :: Here I Come Again
0I’ll be off this afternoon, gonna drive my car there. The car that “merajuk” because I left her at home. When I got back at home, after a week or less, the car won’t start… the mechanic says the battery was low, and new cars are like that, you can’t leave them not moving for long. Too many electronic component that will continuously drain the battery. (Oooo pandai merajuk la plak, baru 2, 3 hari). So I’ll be driving it over so at least I will be using the car not so frequently, but it’ll be taken care of.
Semi packed at the moment, there’s still a few items left unpacked, and still deciding whether I want to bring the water dispenser or not. Will be bringing along a whole wardrobe, you know how it is with teachers, bags full of work clothes
Need to remind myself to bring my ping-pong bats, and tennis racquet. Don’t want to miss out on playing both games again
Then there’s the shoes, don’t want to play football bare-footed again, still got a few thorns in my feet because of the last football game.
So till then, I’m gonna go and pack a few more things. ![]()

A Place In The Hills
0It has been a week since I first stepped my foot at my new school. Glad to say that the atmosphere is most welcoming. The teachers are super friendly, you couldn’t get a friendlier bunch. The kids, so far I can say very well behaved. I get greeted everytime I walk around the compound, which is wayyyy better than during my practicum.
First day I got there, I was straight away told that I’ll be teaching 3 classes of English, of which I don’t know which class yet. And another 2 classes of science, to which I’ve been told that it would definitely be general science for form two. They actually asked if I can teach Biology, but I sort of backed out from it. My first degree is Aquatic Biology, but I’m not that confident teaching it to them. Since the syllabus has changed quite a lot since my SPM days.
I was also assigned a teacher’s quarters, will be sharing it with an ustaz and also the other English teacher that was posted with me. He will be teaching 5 English classes, which to me is lucky because he can concentrate on teaching what he learnt at the college. Nevermind, science is pretty much is in my blood anyway, don’t think I’ll hit any major bumps.
So far everything is cool at the school, even have one of those VSAT broadband connections. Guess I’ll try to update from the computer lab if I can, but until then, I’ll just hop back home now and then and do my internetting from home ![]()

The Fox’s Cave
I’ve just got back from the short briefing which was from 8 am till 2 pm
Just got to know which school I’m posted to. No big surprise actually, got a school back in the rural areas. My school is SMK Tengku Bendahara, or previous incarnation, SMK Jerek. The school is somewhere in Gua Musang, where exactly I can’t say, but I guess I’ll discover that tomorrow.
Will be packing up tonight and head off to Gua Musang early in the morning. My feelings about the posting, hmmm not too disappointed as I have expected it, I think the person who is more disappointed is my mom and my dad. Both have sort of liked the idea of me staying close to home, guess not…
I’ll not be too far, just 185KM away ![]()
My concern is whether I can get an internet connection at the school or not, have heard that some of this rural school have got Satelite Broadband installed. The package is called VSAT if I’m not mistaken. Hopefully it’s there.
Wishful thinking ahahaha
Guess my posting will be once or twice a week, on the weekends that I do get home. Till then, wanna pack up a little.

Two Zero Zero Six
1A new year has dawned upon us, what is a new year? Nothing more than a change of numbers for some, a new beginning for others, and there are still others who doesn’t even care.
For me this new year would mean that I’ll be doing something that is both old and new. I’ve have worked as a teacher before, so that is old. But this year I’ll be starting off as a certified teacher so that’s something new for me. Unlike some of my friends, the name of the school where I’ll be posted have not been disclosed. The State Education Dept. is keeping it all hush hush. I’ll only know the name of the school on the 3rd when I go to a briefing at KB.
Mentally, I think I’m ready to take on the job. Its not like I haven’t done it before. But there is always a challenge when you start at a new school. Relationship to build, trust to gain, friends to make. And most important a new set of students
But I’m actually excited to start teaching again. It’s been a while since I last entered a class (last was september). Geared up and ready to go, although.. physical preparation is almost zero right now. The text books and dictionaries are ready, but haven’t chosen a bag yet.
Wonder how the students think about English, hopefully I can’t generate some interest for English in them. Wish me luck in steering them to the right direction, and definitely I want to enjoy taking them on the ride.
So a happy new year to everyone, may this new year be prosperous, luck and fortune abound ![]()
